My least favourite place in Stellenbosch – The x-ray room to the back right at radiology in Medi Clinic. During a few hours of mental quicksand I accepted the possibility of breaking my left wrist a third time after a slow speed rocky section between Brandwacht and Coetzenburg made for an endo as my front didnt bounce from a rut. Doctors referal, x-ray, back to doctor – and immense relief. Its still sensitive, now 7 days on, but no fracture.

Puma are rolling out some new trainers for the year, available in South Africa from the 3rd quarter on. Have seen samples, and figure they’ll become major players. For now, got sent some of the 09 versions of the Trail Fox, Calibus, Racer and Eutopia – all from Puma’s Complete Running Range. The mid-sole of the new Calibus is interesting, and feels more ‘rocker’ under foot. Took me a run or two to settle in, but a fine feeling striding through onto and off the toes.

(Wijnhuis with Specialized)
For both Dylan and I, to join the Specialized Factory Team during a week of their tire testing, would have been a distant bit of wishful thinking not so long ago. Meaning that after being treated for the week’s effort at Wijnhuis last Friday, it would have been wrong to end the celebrations there…

So we didnt.

We ended it some time later with a few BP Pies. A good idea a the time. It has been to many. I even traced a: 3am BP Pie Appreciation Facebook Group with nearly 800 members. It took half the Four Passes ride for them to turn from foe to friend… They Pepper Steak and Spinach that is.

(Clare’s 19th birthday party)
All of which meant for a half dazed dinner party at the farm last Saturday in celebration of my not-so-baby-sister who turned 19. Only she was not in attendance, as a last minute job call to Johannesburg changed plans. A special night toasting to a special girl.

Instead of sharing the night wit us, she jived with Zuma, potentially South Africa’s future president at an exclusive ANC Gala, snapping images for the media agency she’s doing an internship with. Most proud of her drive and boldness at life’s new opportunities and challenges.
Getting excited for the Sani2c mtb stage race later this month. Was brilliant having James down for a few days – my riding partner for the event. As opposed to mellowing out in the Adventure as with Dylan last year (bar racing for our X-box’s on day 2), James and I plan to race the main event for EA Sports. It is simply the most incredible bike race – for quality riding and even better attention to detailed support. Cant wait.

Trying to wriggle my way into the Giro as well. Which will be a beast very different to Sani. Dont know whether I’d be in the league to avoid elimination, but could be a great block of work if I could ride. Will keep you posted.
