10minutes

April 4th, 2009 by Dan Hugo

I just started the clock. Ten minutes of random thoughts, without permission to edit once down. Was thinking of the concept while out running earlier. Another failed run that is. Perhaps I should just be positive about the small progressions I am making, and that would swing the tide. Alas. Just feel so locked down in the enormity of expectations - self and otherwise imposed - for a standard I now feel utterly incapable to meet. But that’s a part of the game, no? Not the first time I’ve been injured, nor the last. Last year was niggle free, bar the agony of plantar fasciitis caused by a cleat shifting. And in 07 I had the spill over in the USA during the Alabama Xterra, which took three months to settle. The start of 06 was spent mending from Jaundice and the first scaphoid break. Eish. Eat it like a you would an elephant a friend suggested today - piece by piece. Five minutes done. Five minutes, an eternity in Naude’s gym, or while clock watching doing roll-ups in Pilates, and now little more than a few thoughts awkwardly posed. Cant figure the morning. Need to get to Langebaan to join family for a day, but swim and long ride, a drive, a nap, a desire to swing via the slow food market (my current infatuation) just dont add up to the 12 hours of daylight. Far out today was stunning, autumn in Stellenbosch. The sunsets are the most awe inspiring scenes of clouds painted with the richness of colours like the vineyards lining the Jonkershoek valley. Autumn. The summer is done. Fly on Monday in two weeks. Grabouw before then. Where has the time gone? Am I missing it? Surely I am not as efficient with my “sip and savour life” mentality as I used to be. Been a little all over the show I guess. That be that. Starting to get the excitement snow balling for some travel and racing. Best make the most of that chapter then. Will be different this year, with the new series and added travel. 10minutes are done. Bed time anyhow. Need to better my routine. Sleep routine especially. I love to sleep.
