Celebrations
July 5th, 2007 by Dan Hugo
Have mentioned before, but was reminded how I treasure the eyes with which I return from my travels. The renewed pride in and appreciation for home upon return, whether the colourful sight and sound of my homelands people, the powerful images of its scenery, or the sweet tastes of childhood treats, all seems to have a far more weighty impact on my senses and emotions after travel. A challenge to make it the norm I reckon.Shared a most memorable night with my parents celebrating their 25th wedding anniversary last weekend out at the farm. Got to connect with friends of our family I’d not seen for ages, and in all, a far too short unforgettable night.
Wrist seems to be mending well, or so I hope to believe at least. Been able to spin on a stationary trainer a small bit, and jogged here and there, even tried my new water compatible cast out in the pool this week. However, still seemed a little tender for such theatrics. Alas. Guess my highlights training wise has been getting back into my Pilates classes here in Stellenbosch. My posture seems to respond so well to the stimulus.
Snuck away with a few friends two hours north west, to a dam on the foothills of the stunning Cederberg mountain range. Was frustrating not being able to get out on the dam, and spinning, well, trying to with powercranks at least while over looking the water, was as close as I was too get.
Got to start my 23rd year there too, turning 22. What a year it had been. Plenty that’s just too far out to conceptualise myself. Plenty I’m so grateful for. But I’m not quite on the page I want to be yet, but I believe I can write it to my tune.
