Jeep Msinsi Multisport Video - Nagle Dam

Sunday, September 28th, 2008

Some images from my event back home before coming over to the USA last weekend. It was the third leg of the Jeep Msinsi Multisport Series, and I’ll miss the fourth, but be there for what they build up to - The Powerade Triple Challenge on 9 November.

Tribute to David Viljoen

Saturday, September 27th, 2008

My good friend and fellow Mon Desir neighbour for ages, has been in Canada working for some time. David has been one of my greatest supports since going full time, and is always vocal on the blog. He started mountain biking in Whistler, arguably the best place to mountain bike in the world (so I’ve [...]

Justin and Iris - in ‘full’ support next weekend

Friday, September 26th, 2008

Justin and Iris are making the trip from Sweet Home Alabama to Truckee next week to support me at the USA Xterra Series Final at Lake Tahoe. In preparation, they’d ordered some dghugo.com merchandise in the spirit of the fun and games to come. Really grateful. Their support is incredible.

Craig’s Car!

Friday, September 26th, 2008

Craig Evans was my riding partner on some of the earlier races in the States, as well as the RV driver gracious enough to commute Ruth and myself between Alabama and Richmond. I’ll get to catch up with Craig next weekend at Lake Tahoe.

Log riding on Saturday

Thursday, September 25th, 2008

Half way down the most brilliant cross country type downhill I’ve riden, was some tree trunk riding and log piles to traverse. Although the clip does the obstacles no justice, it gives a feel for it.

My Encounter with an Xterra Pro Athlete

Wednesday, September 17th, 2008

We all at some time have wondered what it would be like to walk in the shoes of a celebrity whether Hollywood star, Basketball star, Football star or my case an Xterra Pro. Recently, I had the awesome privilege of briefly witnessing the race life of Xterra Pro Athlete [...]

Chaos as usual

Friday, September 12th, 2008

What a day? If I wrote to assure you I planned it differently, you’d probably laugh it off as I’ve said that before… Nearly in the tent though, for the last night… Good news amongst the carnage: On the cover of the latest Sports Guide Magazine.

Last day in The Bosch

Thursday, September 11th, 2008

My time in Stellenbosch comes to an end tomorrow with a usual chaotic day of frantic last minute’s and packing. Sort of nostalgic this time. Unsure why, just out and about for 7 weeks on this trip but perhaps it’s related to the ‘big appreciation of home’ patch I’m in? Will do a run on [...]

Little Josh - the Driving Protege

Tuesday, September 9th, 2008

My Godson Joshua Fraser spent Sunday at the farm. We drive. Thats what we do. All day. All vehicles.

I love what I do

Tuesday, September 9th, 2008

Had such a great 4h mtb long ride on Saturday in the most perfect spring weather along the foothills of the Stellenbosch mountains. Every view seemed more crisp and clear than before, and all the fynbos smelt most distinctly. Tires gripped, sweat dripped, and in all was just a ride as good as it gets.

Continuing the inspiration theme - The Invitation Poem

Friday, September 5th, 2008

I’ve had this poem ‘press-sticked’ on the inside of my cupboard for years. Havent read it for a while. One I should from time to time as a challenge to self.  I hope you’ll enjoy it. And find as much inspiration in it as I did on a mellow rest day’s morning with life passing [...]

Specialized Bike Ad’s for Inspiration

Thursday, September 4th, 2008

Today’s the most glorious spring weather - perfect blue sky, not a breath of wind, moderate temperatures. But I thought to add to its calling inspiration two Specialized Bike commercials. I’ll be doing 3×10min hill repeats against Hellshoogte. The kind of session that will get me procrastinating all morning.

Base training at an end

Thursday, September 4th, 2008

Feels like the end of my base phase is spot on, eager to get cracking on some longer quality and HR and body showing signs of great endurance built over a sustained and consistent block of longer slower the past 6 weeks. Incredible how the body adapts.

Garmin Commercial

Tuesday, September 2nd, 2008

About to go mountain biking in Jonkershoek, 3.5 hours on an undulating course. Sun’s out again - I’d have bouycott otherwise. Will have my Garmin Edge 705 navigating as I roll along. Nearly as essential to me as to Napoleon in the this ad…

Into the Wild - A movie for the wild hearted

Monday, September 1st, 2008

For sure one of the greatest films I’ve seen leaving a lasting lingering impression too sticky to shake. And I dont want to loose its impact anyhow. A true tale of a mind, a soul, a spirit in a man deciding to follow its own course of destiny. And for that a renown for all [...]

Dejan Patrcevic

Monday, September 1st, 2008

Dejan, a partner of mine in the Nekada team, placed second this past weekend in 70.3 event in Austria. I cant pronounce his name, nor understand any of the race report. But the more important bits are universal - he podium-ed in second but looked way more trendy in transition than the winner. Thats what [...]
