Video Clip: Xterra Worlds 2008 on Maui

Friday, October 31st, 2008

A short three minute clip of a Sunday morning on Maui. An extraordinary one. Unfortunately the clip does little to show the vicious lava rock, or the brutal heat, nor the big climbs, and long beaches. But it goes a small way to show some atmosphere from the Xterra World Championships of 2008.

Some shockers. I have never seen anything like this. The Xterra World Championsjip afterparty is a Halloween dressup. I didnt realise to what extent… Or that just about everyone does… I’ll be prepared next time.

Maui living

Saturday, October 25th, 2008

I’m settling into the Maui vibe - pineapples and all… I’ve been over the little practice course on the bike, done the last parts of the run across the beaches, forest and rocky ledges, another swim or two, done a studio tv interview, attended a pro meeting and today, sitting with my feet up for [...]

First Day on Maui

Thursday, October 23rd, 2008

Had a great day on Maui. Lazy morning, catching up with Brian and Jenny who got in late the night before. Doing an incredible swim, maybe the most amazing swim I’ve had yet, swimming towards the Maui Prince Hotel from up the coast. Something like swimming in an aquarium. A warm one. Checked out part [...]

Reno-Seattle - in thought and flight

Wednesday, October 22nd, 2008

Strange being on a twin prop plane. Assuming the two ‘fan’s’ on either side makes it one. About as strange as the girl diagonally across shirt’s inscription: “delightfully tacky, yet unrefined”. Or about as strange as the feeling of  being Maui bound.

“It’s in the bag” - just need to pull out a rabbit

And that be that. The end of a small potent block of work in Truckee Tahoe High School pool as well as the trails circling Truckee Town. High, low, fast, slow - all the bad now. The usual scramble tomorrow, before a 10:40am departure to Kahului via Seattle.

Xterra USA Championship 2008 Video

Friday, October 17th, 2008

Team Unlimited’s highlight clip from last weekend’s Xterra USA Championship 2008 in Incline Village. A great clip in high res which does well to capture much of the emotion on the course. Top draw. Enjoy.
(Still on working on my clip with the footage I have… Coming soon - to a screen near you.)

Xterra Tahoe Aftermath

Friday, October 17th, 2008

Strange how an event can change inner perception - going from self doubt to self belief. I’m sure that’s universal, but non more so than in sport. The thought patterns change for me, and the visualization while training grows in confidence and positivity. Surely not much changed physically during the event, other than the inner [...]

Armstrong Inspiration

Tuesday, October 14th, 2008

Back in bed after the swim, faded and jaded. Was a good set. Still feeling yesterdays 6hour long ride in 5dgree max temperatures I think, so will try ‘nap’ it off. Have had this video, that Fraser posted not so long ago, on my mind plenty this past while. I’m sure you’ve seen it, I [...]

Comedy or tragedy?

Friday, October 10th, 2008

Been fascinating to follow some of the politcal circus in the USA over the past month. Watched some clips earlier this evening, including The Daily Show and what not, even some Chris Rock commentary, all mainly at the expense of Sarah Palin. Please take the time to watch these clips. Look forward to some comments [...]

USN Banners… Life size!

Friday, October 10th, 2008

Max mailed me some photo’s yesterday taken at a random pharmacy in Kloof somewhere. Great to see USN - my nutrition sponsor - using me in their campaigns. A real privilege. Especially when its life size…

If you’d care to read a race report below, which would be two years old next week, do so for humour sake. How raw and honest and exciting it all was. Else just skip to the last line.
Xterra USA Finals this weekend is the first without “this girl”. She has been an incredible support [...]
