Adele Live in Concert

Posted on by Dan Hugo

Somewhere between the main set and session ending speed work during Jane’s Masters last Friday morning Dion, British-has-spent plenty time in Stellenbosch Dion, groans that Adele was to play in Denver. Just like that. Unsolicited, unexpected, and entirely impossible to ignore. I’d probably have cussed, push-offed for the next interval while brewing a strong sense of regret until I could get his attention again to squeeze for more information.

No use he said, it’ a tiny venue that was sold out, and even after a few extra tickets were released on Monday, it sold out within minutes again. More spontaneous disbelief in an angered tone would have followed. So too another push off and effort.

True as gold Adele was set to perform at the Ogden Theatre in Denver – which can accommodate no more than 800pax I’d later find out. Adele has been the current music infatuation of mine including my current ringtone. Pretty much no artist I’d prefer to see at the moment, and she was going to be rocking her powerful lyrics to soulful beats less than 40minutes drive away. So wrong. it all felt.

Later over coffee I voiced this anguish to a friend who immediately shared the sentiment with visible discomfort. She later asked if I’d join if two tickets could stolen. Which was like asking if I’d accept a glass of Caub Franc. A Raats 09. On a crisp winters evening.

There was a lengthy queue outside the Ogden by the time we arrived; all with creative A4 pages begging for tickets to purchase. It had me feeling guilty pleasure and sympathy till I could truly appreciate how rare this was to be for the theatre inside was tiny. Even the worst spot in the house would more than do. After taking a stance near the front left, I overheard the couple behind saying she’d flown in from Idaho and he’d flown in from Florida. Real deal shit.

And what followed ranks high on my all time list. Just phenomenal set from start to finish with some hilarious British post love-affair humour to explain lyrics between the tracks. Adele has a fantastic sense of humour. And a sure passion for her gift which she enjoys with infectious effect.

Adele is all of 23 and I’d be waiting with anticipation for her produce again. Guessing there will have to love and hurt before though as this album, 21, is mostly about a boy and failed love and its journey. If you have a moment, read some of the lyrics before listening to the songs. Time well spent.
