Auburn Ride with Forest Hill Loop

April 28th, 2008 by Dan Hugo

Have  a look at this website with great photo’s of the insane mountain bike ride I did today. Mind blowing single track - something like 3hours of it. My concentration was shot, as it just kept coming and coming and demanding more and more. I am without broken bones, so this mtb ride went significantly better than my last in the USA.

(Some of the trails are visible in picture?)

We drove for 45min from Truckee towards San Fransisco, descending some 4000 feet. The vegetaion and climate was totally different, and at least there was more air in the 30degree heat. The drive was well well worth it. Unreal riding. More corner than I’ve done in the past month in one ride along a roler coaster of smooth trail with the occasional rock jigsaw to negotiate.

(My coach, Gary Mandy, half as excited as me to ride some good trails)

(Forest riding, in very different vegetation to Truckee)

(Conrad Snover, Gary, and myself )

Both Snover and Gary were on single speed’s - and I was battling to stay in touch. So much so that eventually I wasnt sure whether to shift or just stay in the ratio I was…

(Trails are shared - and properly managed)

(River views were nuts)

(Gary and I doing and ice-bath at the ride’s end - well, with a 20min climb left)

Hi Dan, I think I am very clever getting myself registered into your site. I would not have had the patience if it were not that I want to say hello to Ruth !! Have replied to her emails, but they dont seem to want to send to her or your email address…. just wanted her to know that I have her email and am thinking of her these first few days of her adventure in a country so far away from SA. Not sure what to do about sending emails though…. should I try a different address? Also are you on international roaming, if so what code do I use to prefix your number…so I can sms…
Your ride looked awesome - having lived and explored Canada when we lived there I have some idea of where you are at….. lots of love Avrile
