Feels like the end of my base phase is spot on, eager to get cracking on some longer quality and HR and body showing signs of great endurance built over a sustained and consistent block of longer slower the past 6 weeks. Incredible how the body adapts.
(Running on the Bergpad above Coetzenburg)
Had 3x8min on at Sub AT (Anaerobic Threshold) last night, which for me is 162-169 bpm, as my fist quality set. Nothing spectacular, if anything an discomfort trying to lift a tempo after weeks of slower work. But the start of the next phase, some aerobic conditioning, which I’m really excited for. Again how the body adapts to speed is fascinating, in two weeks time running the same lap of Jan Marais at a faster pace will feel more comfortable. HR was great, very consistent and recovered well to drop really low on the 3min jog between.
(Hitting a drop off)
So too on the bike. Felt like a could ride a really solid 3h30 on the mtb yesterday, with an average HR of 129 on my Garmin. Will also be getting out on the mountain bike increasingly from here on in.
Anyhow, just to report on my excitement of form coming on slowly, and the start of the next block.
