Chris Storie’s Story

June 15th, 2008 by Dan Hugo

I spoke to Chris yesterday, still in hospital, but found him confident in being discharged by the evening. He has had surgery, removing a disk between C3 and C4, and replacing it with some bone from elsewhere I think. It’s an injury thats common to American Football players he said, a neck whiplash type impact. Chris, remarkably was in good spirits, and felt he was making good progress with his PT. Other than a the spinal injury, a broken nose, and a cut up lip, the three months he’d be off his bike bothered him most. Time on the wind trainer he suggested. More seriously, Chris sounded like he’d be alright. His left hand was still a bit slow, but his right was almost fully functional. Not much is recalled from the incident, and Chris suggested it may just hvae been a hand slipping off the bars. Such is the fine line.

Thank you for carrying Chris in your thoughts and prayers.

    Dan,
Sorry about the crash. I wanted to thank you for checking on me. I’m not sure what caused my crash. My thoughts are that I came out of the saddle to increase my speed for the descent and my handlebar caught a tree. Please give me a call when your in the states again. I owe you big time. I hope you and Ruth are doing well. Please look for my facebook account. http://www.facebook.com/home.php?#/profile.php?id=764030223
