Dejan and Igor - Hawaii - Kona - Ironman

October 15th, 2009 by Dan Hugo

Two of my team mates were out between the lava and brute heat this past weekend, at the crown jewel of triathlon, the Kona Ironman World Championship spectacle - the origin of the sport. Its somehow like the holy grail of triathlon and I share in their passion for the event, dreaming some day of following in their and all the great’s footsteps - just still unsure I’d like to race it, but that may change, when I grow up…

Congrats to both, Dejan with his 29th, and Igor with his 76th. Incredible running by Dejan to go sub 3h - seems very did. Was apparently 5degrees cooler then last year, but no wind made it more oppressive and slower in all.

I’ve been following some of the guys training for Kona this year, on twitter, two Specialized riders in particular, Chris McCormack and Terenzo Bozzone, and the volume stimulus these guys were handling was far out, stupifying stuff. If there is such a word. And to see them melt down, is unreal. Merciless, savage conditions.

Was brilliant seeing an old acquaintance, Andreas Raelart go so well. Hoping he’ll return to the Bosch this summer.

Anyhow, was to post congrats to my triathlon team members success, and admit my infatuation with the cruelty of the event, and the hope to share in it some day…
