A close friend and I have been exchanging conversations with self. Hoping she doesnt mind me sharing this:

Email:

“I have been thinking about dreams a lot lately. Mostly my own obviously, but also dreams in general. To be honest it has consumed my thoughts the past few weeks. I guess it’s because we are halfway through 2010 already and I felt like it was time for some introspection. With this in mind I went to the best known speech about dreams I can think of. Yes, that one – the one by Martin Luther King Jr.

Three phrases spoke to me.

And so even though we face the difficulties of today and tomorrow, I still have a dream.

I reckon that is the biggest challenge when it comes to dreams and dreaming: To keep on dreaming never mind the difficulties. When times get tough and I find my motivation low I often tell myself I need a reality check or that my dreams is just a waist of time. But I truly believe we all need dreams. We need them to give meaning to what we are doing right now in the moment. That is what I believe. Is a goal and dream possibly the same thing. For me it is yes. Both is something you work towards.

I have a dream that one day

I get this a lot. Thinking about the future I have a lot of dreams I want to make come true, like in reaching my goals. Once again for me it is the same thing. I always said that I want to do this and this before I’m 30…well ha! Guess what in 6 months time I will be 30. Luckily I have a trip to Europe before that. I always wanted to go overseas with friends. That is a dream that will be fulfilled soon. I reckon it is ok to have dreams for the future. You must have dreams for the future. Otherwise why are we living if we aren’t living for something worth living in mind or worth achieving and fulfilling?

I have a dream today!

This one is the biggest for me. We hear a lot about living in the moment and making every second count. And I find that if I have daily dreams for myself that also works. It doesn’t have to be future bound! Dream now and make it come true. Don’t wait to dream of fulfil the dream. Nobody but yourself can stop you.

There is a saying that the only way to make a dream come true is to wake up. That makes sense. You have to stop dreaming at some point to make the dreams come true. That is obvious. And probably also something difficult, because the moment that you wake up, is the moment when you have to start and work on your dreams. And that is were I am at the moment. I’m still a bit groggy and trying to be remember what the dream was all about so that I can start making it more than just a dream. I have to work on making it reality. It is an exciting time ahead for me. I’m looking forward to it.

Here is to dreams and making it reality…”
