Nashville is known as the Music City - I therefore started googling live acts during my week stay while driving between Alabama and Tennessee. Couldnt believe seeing the words Ellie Goulding at the Ryman Auditorium, Monday 20th June. Her voice, her emotive and energetic tracks have been getting me out the door for the past month. Literally been playing Figure8 and Lights repeatedly while dressing for sessions.
After purchasing some inflated tickets on the black market we planned a meal in downtown Nashville, in the up and coming area called The Gulch. Our recommendation was for fushion sushi at a trendy spot called Virago. It did not disappoint. But was entirely overshadowed for impact by the intensity of show which followed at the old Grand Ole Opery House known now as the Ryman Auditorium, with its 2362 seats on wooden pews.
I need to plagirize words that summarize better than I ever could:
In a review for Halcyon, Neil McComick of The Daily Telegraph described her voice as “something special”, continuing; “Her tremulous vibrato and slightly hoarse timbre have the feel of something primal and folky, her birdlike high notes conveying a childlike wonder while darker tones imply ancient depths of sorrow. She sings like she is strung out on the melody, warbling from a place of desperate emotion. It really is that rarest and perhaps most accidental of gifts: an original voice”. He then continued in regards to her vocal layering stating, “producer Jim Eliot puts her voice front, back and centre, banking up choral walls of vibrato, fashioning hooks from cut up samples of chirrups and chants, and creating unusual textures from trills and warbles”. – Wikipedia Page
More British female vocalist admiration after seeing live. First Imogen Heap, then Florence and the Machine, Adele and now Ellie Goulding. I need to visit London Town!?
It was undoubtedly the best live act I’ve seen. I’m infatuated with her ‘show personality’. It was unreal yet tangible and personal at the same time. Smoke and mirrors are my game, but this girl fronts real well. It will no doubt be one of the best nights of 2013 and I’m intensity grateful for the opportunity of having been there, jamming to high powered creativity.
If you know her, best tell her I’m totally smitten and that I’d enjoy making her a latte after a morning run. Apparently she runs daily!? And did the Nike Woman’s half in 1:41 two weeks ago. Just saying.
