Received an email from a friend yesterday requesting an updated post to relieve his ‘hanging by a thread’ – evidently a dghugo.com faithful. So this randomized week’s worth of couped expression may be a little messy, but that would be reflective of the week. And considering this is my second hour at Durban Airport Spur, my inspiration is mellow like the rainy weather which suppressed the shoot today. So this is for Partick, and the others interested in finer detail. If you’re like me and more into visuals and scan read posts, sit tight till later in the week.
Great to be a part of another Jeep Apparel gig, the brand is my my original dreamGiver and still pushing a “Live Without Limits” image I love. The shoot was for the 2010 winter range and had some technical cold weather jackets and executive coats I really want… But not on a 30degree spring day. Today was perfect though, as temperatures were halved overnight and had us requested the scarf as opposed to wiping theĀ brow with it. Fun crew, who I’ve worked with before, and humour all round.
So look forward to getting to Bosch tonight as I’m a little spent. You’d be inclined to consider two days of lounging, smiling, and changing kit two rest days but its so much time on one’s feet and in the sun, and plenty people interaction – all seemingly contrary to my conditioning…
Reality is I’m still in sleep debt after a few fantastic nights. Need to back track:
Flew up to Joburg on Thursday morning, having driven in freezing rain before sunrise, in stark contrast to the heat at Groenkloof nature reserve in Pretoria, the location for some Tropitone visuals. We’d tried to make it happen in the Cape, and couldnt get the weather timed, so decided to get the ball rolling with something up North. Went well, dont think think the Gauteng winter dryness and brownness and hazy blue skies are going to match some of the wow visuals we’ll create down the line, but a neat start.
Had a Garmin party that night: A life less Ordinary. Couldnt be speaking my language more than that. It was hands down one of the coolest sexiest brand building brand celebrating affair I’ve been at. Rocked out no end. Red carpet, sky divers, First Project ripping their drum sets apart, and the launch of the new GTribe magazine. It was something like saying: We’re the shit. We’re the best. This is why, and this is where we’re going, to become better then the best. And you’re welcome to join us. Something to that effect anyway. I loved it. And crazy environmental and technological synnergies being created. Fitness is a small part of their portfolio and future campaign, but its growing in their focus, and I’m amped to be a part thereof.
If all that and my 310XT review has not convinced you that you need to own one, read this indepth review. Its more detailed than any review I’ve ever seen, but the summary is the same as mine – 310XT is a must have.
Hard to tell if it was the Majito’s, or two shots of Patron XO Cafe (my favouritest drink discovery yet), but once I got to bed (way later than planned) I couldnt flick the switch. Meant less than three hours of respite – an ill recipe for the bike check chaos to follow. Had hassles wheeling my bike on for the first time in South Africa. Had to wrap it in accordance with new ACSA handling regulations. So despite flying up with it the day before, they refused to accept it, and eventually missed the 715am and had to kill time till 930.
Two years over due, after trying every avenue, I finally committed to power and went from the airport into Cape Town city bowl to collect two Powertap wheels built for my road and mtb use. Excited at reading up, experimenting, and getting to terms with this most accurate measure of training load for cycling. And do some tests, to add to the strength tests done with Naude at Eden Health this past week, which left me feeling encouraged at my scope for improvement (also read: I’m disappointingly weak).
Spent much of last week engrossed in one of Patrick Holdford’s nutrition books. Fascinating reading, and follows on from the start I made 18months ago, when Ruth published a post on his Optimal Nutrition Bible. More on my thoughts re diet soon.
Between late flight and CA trip, and pressure mounting from home for my flower arrangement duties for mother’s 50th, and ultimately my smoked motivation from a night out, I missed my training on Friday. Did really enjoy the time at home, fixing table displays and catching up with family.
Was a grand affair, 75 folk attending as significants in mothers’ life, many of whom are precious in mine too. So treasured the time catching up and celebrating my mothers life. She’s an inspiration to me, and shaped my perspective on life in every way. Will continue striving to learn from her wisdom and grace.
So I have been here for two and a half hours, and am about to miss check-in. Best get cracking, and leave the Chili Peppers on my iTunes. So look forward to getting home.
