Ian Don Wauchope wins Jeep Msinsi Final and Series

October 7th, 2007 by Dan Hugo

Ian Don Wauchope and Jeanie Bomford were crowned Jeep Msinsi Series Champions 07 earlier today after both athletes, racing for Team Land Rover Gear, won the series final 4th race at Albert Fall’s. I’ve been reporting on the exciting growth and development of multisport in Natal, and the final was a climax hereof. Close to 600 enjoyed the day out, ranging from little three year olds, to socialites doing the multicross event.

I personally enjoyed my second race, done as prep for month end’s Totalsports Challenge in Sun City. I’ve had three great weeks, and form is coming on real well. I knew I might be shown up for lack of speed, but didnt expect it to be on the bike. The run went so so, better than expected actually, running through stunning surrounds including small buck in bushveld thicket. I was down 55sec after the 5km run, trailing Don-Wauchope.

(Finshing the run, coming into T1)

The bike was an undulating two lap 21km ride. Snippets of singletrack, but mainly a fast flowing trail. Pre-riding yesterday was a treat, frightening off a Rhino and her calf, well, perhaps it was Zaren and I who chased off with more enthusiasm than the 1ton tank of an animal. There was less game viewing today, and more determination, but I seemingly didnt have the legs. Lost near two minutes by rides end. Still cant really believe it, just not on that course, but perhaps a motivator from quality on the bike.

The paddle was better, and closed a great deal, but needed another km or two. Was a treat being in one of the worlds best boats, a Nelo Vanquish borrowed from Ruth’s brother Steve.

It wasnt enough though, and maybe trailed by 45sec or so at the end. Great to be racing again, great to entertain the aggression, despite seeing it as a pure training day before. I’ll live to fight another day.
