The Imana Wild Ride is set in the Eastern Cape which conjures up visions of untouched natural splendour, noble heroes of the liberation struggle and gracious inhabitants. Scenic diversity is one of the most striking characteristics of the region, ranging from the lush, evergreen forests to rugged wilderness areas. Alternating between sweeping sanddunes, river mouths, rocks and covers, the coastline is a paradise. Dan said it has been such a unique experince so far and enjoyed the first stage of the race today. He has partnered up with Max Knox, which seems to have made for many laughs!
Apparently, from what I can gather, there is no marked route, one can pick their own route, and there are many to choose from! Goat tracks, foot paths, the open beaches, dirt roads… it all sounds a bit like an adventure race! This means that pairs take all different routes in hopes of coming out infront. Some moments you will find yourself with a pair, but then you make a decision to take a different way, you could end up minutes behind. If you dont no the area that well, you are bound to make some bad calls! Dan and Max are currently in second place, they started out with another 2 pairs, but then after a bit of an unluckly navigation call, they ended their day 4 minutes behind races leaders and semi- locals to the area, Pete Smith and Nick Floros.
Both are feeling great and postive for tomorrows day out.
