I missed the truck yesterday. Had to beg to get my baggage into an SUV to toward The Haven. So this morning Max and I set the old alarm for one minute earlier than yesterday. It’s tricky. Having to pack all into your bag long before race start. It takes twice as long for the truck to get round than for us to bike along the coast. Either way, issue was we had a few minutes to spare after breakfast, so we crawled back into bed (you would have too) but had no watch or time indication with us in the room…
It would be a sin of equal punishment to get out of bed too early as it would be to miss the start. This was but the first of many challenges for another tough day in Africa. More of the most remarkable coastal scenery imaginable, as well as indigenous forest canopies today. 46km or riding from The Haven to the Coffee Bay. Also officially the celebration of mothers day with a few of the steep hike a bike walks that conjure words inappropriate to describe any mother.
Again we started 2mins behind the leaders, knowing full well we only till the first mother to bridge, else we’d have to wait for the third team. No chances of navigating a section of inland riding. We’d still be out there if we tried.
Anyhow, my story will have to be continued. So much to blog. Will do. We’re still in second. But its going to go to the wire with a sprint finish I reckon. We’ll have to wait for third to catch us in the morn, and then ride with them till the end…
