Just back from the most incredible road ride alongside streams of fresh molten snow lined with pine trees on white hillsides beneath a blue blue sky. Nuts. Going from fynbos to this in 48hours is like going from a corporate office to the beach.

(Bon Voyage)
Our travel was smooth, flying Cape Town, London, San Francisco, and then Reno. Managed some sleep and arrived feeling more bouncy than expected. Flying between San Fran and Reno Ruth and I were staring out the small plane’s window down on snow covered everything. Conrad’s (conradstoltz.com) suggestion to send him some skiing photo’s suddenly didnt seem so humorous to someone wearing plukkies and a t-shirt. But we landed to fresh crisp air and a temperature of something in the 60′s, which means nothing to my lack of Fahrenheit reference but it was warm and pleasant.
Gia Mandy (giamandy.com) had to do the honours from Reno to Truckee and persevere with our question bombardment. and really enjoyed catching up along the drive from Reno to Truckee. Great to catch up with my coach, Gary, in person and cheers to the week thats been too…

We met for the ride at Wild Cherries Cafe, also the main sponsor of Gary’s underground cycling team (cwcracing.org), and spent most the ride climbing up and over Donner Pass. I was trying to explain to some random passerby on the road that where I’m from there is a lot less snow… and lot more oxygen – all between gasps of breaths.

I’ll take another day or two to settle in and find my feet before getting on with some hard yards. I’m burning up inside to get going, and feel I’ve had a proper holiday between the taper and this week’s chaos. But rest is good, and I’ll be longing for it when sucking on thin air next week.
