The response after the Xterra at Grabouw last week was really amazing, with friends and support getting in touch from all over. Felt like good closure to time at home and a good send-off to the foreign racing block. My folks were telling about everyone they’d bump into in Worcester that was sending on some congratulations. Emails poured in, from people who have watched me grow, from stranger’s I’ve not met, from Xterra Founder and his office… All pretty special and encouraging.
Looking back on the building block – I’d like to mention two in particular who went out of their way to accompany me on the hard yards, often against their will… Julia Bleasdale ran with me a lot, and did well to get me to lift my ‘cruising speed’ as she’d always be pushing that fraction steadier than I’d usually do. Our best run’s were up on the contour in Jonkershoek, two of which were in pouring rain, and without Julia, they’d not have been done. Thanks Julia. Sorry for keeping you waiting for all those ‘five late minutes’.

And Michal Steyn, who spent hours keeping me company when he should have been studying his Accountancy Honours. It did come good for him too, placing top ten pro at Grabouw. It was great to see him having such fine day out on his first Xterra.

Most of my media, was thanks to Eunice Visagie who writes for Die Burger and Media24. She’s been unreal in rigging the stories to my favour. Even quoting my dghugo.com url a number of times which is very valuable to me.

Got my first proper mention on the xterraplanet.com after as well. And as mentioned above, most of the Hawaii based office got in touch. An incredible bunch who put their energy behind the brand globally. Stoltz always mentions how the crew are more like family than anything else…
