We had plenty reason to celebrate last night: 2nd in Temecula. Ruth’s support of and patience with me. Gary’s fine programs and guidance. Gia’s grace for those programs being written on Sunday night. To name but the first few.

(Rolling California Rolls)
We decided on Sushi and Champagne. Home made sushi that is. A first for the lot of us. I got ordered into rolling – apparently my A-type personality would be perfect for the Japanese perfection…

(Ruth preparing the ingredients)

(Completed California rolls and Nigri)

(Celebrations on…)

(Champagne from New Mexico)
Special times. Good times. Couldn’t ever get anywhere without a solid support base, and its as big a treat as any getting an opportunity to toast a few of those that form just that.

one of these days i will be at one of these wonderful celebrations! Table looked great – I dont eat sushi – but it looked very edible. Good one Ruth – on the support and being there and the food prep! love you and miss you. Av and Mum
Be careful about eating raw food during racing season. Also be careful about eating stuff like home made icecream etc. Any risk of getting even the smallest food poisoning is not necessary when you have so much at stake.
Look at Ironman Hawaii 2007 – most of the major contenders dropped out because of food issues from days before.
Sushi is a high risk food.
Dan, you should know better than to succumb to the siren song of sushi. Nikola is correct yet again. I volunteer to throw myself on the grenade of being your official race season food tester. If I suspect a potential hazard I will be compelled to eat it all and simply provide you with a proper description of the culinary experience. That particular offering in the photo appeared quite yummy. Tell the Truckee clan we will be in town a week from Sunday at which time I will be prepared to sample any gourmet delights, but only as an act of supreme altruism.
DUDE!
Whats this New Mexico Bubbly crap you put into your body? Thats stuff probably contains methanol and not the GOOD alcohol called ETHANOL! Methanol will make you go blind and sterile! You want that? I am sure the answer is NO!
Take it from a winemaker – when you are having good food – you HAVE TO drink good wine with it….especially sushi!
Dude – you break my heart! HAhahahahaha.
chef
eat what you like, especially when we make it at home………
haha craziness…ma jy word gescrutinize ne boy’tjie!
We will have to go out for a good Sushi evening in Tokyo. When are you coming over???
Hey Chris,
Soon mate. Soon enough. I’ve heard of the reputation sushi has there… Wasabi being made fresh from scratch, personalized combinations made on request, and all with price tag no Rand can convert too… Aiai.
If you’ve offering though, I’ll be there. So beware what you wish for. Will have to use Xterra Japan as the official excuse.
Dan
Cool..we are there from the 15th July and the Japan Xterra Marunuma is on the 29th Aug. It would be great to have you stay over.
