Mellowed Christmas Memories

Christmas is what you make thereof; hope you created something special. Merry Christmas.

I love the culture of family togetherness that Christmas celebrations initiate here in South Africa, but for this one, twas down to mother dearest and I to deck a table for two. Has been a quiet and special three days of disconnect out on the farm – sharing more meals and snacks than the two of us should have, catching up on times past and to come, and thinking of the rest on the Transkei Wild Coast, father with three daughters (and now two attachments a brother needs to check on…).

Hands down the highlight has been breakfasts outside on the stoep facing garden green, summer blue skies, and a timelessness thats simply not there in the Bosch vibe. Fruit is so good here at the moment, and we’d slice up health in a bowl, add my Greek Yoghurt and homemade muesli, and tick through three or four bowls. Why not. Its Christmas.

The close second was a Christmas pudding – traditional one – topped with Brandy Custard. A delicacy that was lost on my senses till now. So somewhat of a revelation. Even had to nip back into Worcester yesterday to get another…

And third was the leg of lamb. So good. Had an excellent ride with Specialized South Africa main man, and two friends of his. One a citizen of the world, having moved about in the past year more than most of us will ever get to travel. All this to get back to the lamb somehow… He mentioned the quality of our local lamb as his number one food experience while here. And from an American, that must mean something. Whats often the norm here, is such a treat. Such great quality of life.

Somehow the easy week worked perfectly into the cycle for this week. Was real needed, and been a little crushed. Not really bounced yet, and meant to be rocking in the morning. So a tad concerned. And on top thereof, have angered my left foot somewhat. Not good. So been 10days of backing off on the run. Missing the freedom plenty, which I like, that I’ve grown so much more fond of time in the Puma’s. Down to two weeks till Totalsports Challenge and three to my maiden 70.3. So hoping to restore balance soonest. Need to anyhow.

Was plotting to spend this eve to Thursday lunch in Bosch, tapping out some work with the international excellence round town. But pretty keen to see the road trip arrive home tonight. The include my middle sisters boyfriend on his first international voyage. So should be entertaining tales all round. Will prob head through tomorrow, and then onward to Langebaan, up the West Coast for the New Years weekend.

What a great weekend here. Twas Christmas. Twas soulful. Resting time with mother dearest.
