Mon Desir Republic
October 27th, 2009 by Dan Hugo
Something like the return of the prince to the palace, like the third musketeer returning to the brotherhood, like times of old, the good ones at least…. Dylan is returning to the fold at Mon Desir, restoring the tally at the Republic. Only, we’re all on the 2nd floor now; Michal, Dylan and myself. Would be foolish to hide my excitement – one of my best mates moving back in.
You’re gathering I’m still put and set to proceed year 9 at Mon Desir, an apartment block right central to Stellenbosch. I was hoping to move out to more living space and shorter walks to the coffee shops, but our tenant pitch failed, and now we’re resolved to make the most of the opportunity to stay.
Flatmate Michal and I swopped rooms (major excitement and trauma) in an attempt to create increased living space where the bike stash was, as well as tweak a few frustrations – the geyser being one. We still plug in the lead, to switch on the double decade old pump my father installed, so that we can have a trickle of hot water… Kayamandi isn’t far off – reminding me to count my blessings when riding by on my gift bikes, but think we could improve here without complaining too much.
I love having a table to read the paper on table, and have seated to a laid table. An old yellow wood arrived this week, but no chairs yet. Still under construction. May even commission some paint efforts from the sister.
A close second to the Dylan excitement, is my investment of passion this week. Purchased an espresso machine. But more on my latest infatuation two moon’s from now. Still need to figure it out.
