New Years Time
January 3rd, 2009 by Dan Hugo
Some bits and pieces from the past few days. No significant reporting to be done. Getting through the work. Got to see my middle sister which was a treat on New Years Eve. Heard a class Oz athlete will be out next weekend (so went for a paddle…). And decided as a resolution, I need to be more professional. If only you knew, but the small things are about to change.
A house in Betty’s Bay. If you’re going to do something, you may as well do it with passion.
Danielson’s mother. Celebrating the start of 09.
Middle sister Nici, arrived back on the 31st from the USA. With total enthusiasm. A challenge to me to hear just how much she managed to experience in her time of University exchange.
Brazilian Christmas cake from friends in town…
My Vermont gift from Nici. Only its 40degrees centigrade here at the moment.
Starting off on the Breede. One of my most preferred offices to work in.
A weir 10min upsteam. At age 8 this was my turn… took longer than 10 back then though.
Mother and Nici awaiting my return.
Just to prove I was on the water myself…
Max Paddles. Great blades, just a pity about the arms that have to pull them.
The rich and famous need somewhere to hang too. Arabella Golf Estate.
Some fariway. Not quite the same appeal as a Jonkershoek single track.
We’ve had the strangest weather or late. Made for stunning skies.
Mason’s Look Out. The top corner of Jonkershoek.
Fraser, Johnny and Mari. Against Viljoen’s pass on a 4Passes long ride.
Xterra Grabouw happens otherside the tree line.
My beloved Edge 705. Hard to imagine training without it.
Toward Franshoek Mountains. I was in front. On occasion. For real.
Snapped a spoke on the Rovals on Tuesday, so had an excuse to roll with some carbon. (I have tidy’d them legs in the mean time…)
Desperate times call for desperate measures.
But then I was into my 1l Coke too.
The last pass going “the African way round” - Hellshoogte. All down to FOOD from here.

Eish. The Breede looks a bit risky in a low profile kayak, from all the stories you’ve told me about you and your dad paddling.
I’m dying to know how you’re going to step-up the professionalism. That post can’t come soon enough. Haha!
