A friend once told me: “It’s only as complicated as you make it” – Applicable to my frantic state of rushing about at times when all should be measured and executed with precision. Alas. All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy, and life’s balance is an universal truth I believe in. Last week just seemed to a bit heavy on the play front…

(Myself with Mike Horn on board the Pangaea; the custom built explorer)
Friday afternoon with Mike Horn was radical. He is a global icon, a South African at heart now based in Switzerland when not doing 2year solo efforts around the arctic… And essentially a character oozing with an aura of anything is possible. The photo below was hanging just beyond the kitchen area, and was in Siberia I believe. Radical stuff for a lad complaining of the cold at morning swimming. His stop over in Cape Town is only for a few days, before setting sail for New Zealand, where the next “explore, learn, act” youth training starts.

After sailing round to Clifton, a fast run towards Robin Island, back into the V&A Waterfront where the yachts moored smell of wealth, I raced off to join my family at Artscape, for the musical production of Beauty and the Beast. I really enjoyed the show, immersing myself into a world of fantasy and humour, with the underlying happy ending love story… Hilarious. But I wasnt the only romantic, as a guy stepped forward after the applause, introduced himself, invited a girl to step forward, and dropped down on one knee. Her emotional ‘yes’ was met with a raucous applause.

Mother tried to take as four farm kids to a show once or twice yearly, from Ballets to Opera’s. We hadnt been a ages, and joining the family for the outing was special in itself. Strange, this appreciation thing – or old age thing.
This was the second night out and about, after watching my Goldfish Live at Spier. What a great gig. Flatmate Michal and I, as well as sisters, friends, three Euro’s, and a few I knew there only managed to stay seated for the first minute of the show…

After trying to look the part for Jeep Apparel in Durban on Tuesday, in studio, I got an opportunity to do another shoot, my first real commercial one, on Sunday for Speedo International. Not an ideal training day, but something different. Different in that I could earn a little with my heart rate below 160bpm…

It’s Cape Epic week, and best man Dylan is a part of the Specialized International crew as of last week. A coup for Mon Desir that deserves a post on its own. He is posting some updates on songo.info.

Dylan and Benno at Tire Testing in January – the week’s work that has opened a bigger door for Dylan.
Off to Worcester tonight, for my last (I hope) out of the ordinary for some time – I am a judge at a high school beauty pagent… Should be a trip.
P.S. – Didnt get to much of that ‘to-do’ list of last week. But the training is coming on. Even managed a few hobbles on the run.
