Ride above Hermanus

December 29th, 2008 by Dan Hugo

Had a fine lunch overlooking the new harbour in Hermanus yestterday. A three-course meal including too much Sauvignon Blanc. I mention this to sketch how unlikely the ride to come felt at some tipsy point.

Created with Admarket’s flickrSLiDR.
But what an epic ride. I’ll reminisce on it some distant day for its crazy views.
Went up the Rotary Road, all the way across above Hermanus, one of the Western Cape’s most preferred coastal destinations. Across till clouds had snuck up on me and opened gates. I bailed and flowed back down, only for it to dry by sea level again. So went into the Hemel en Aarde valley. So much character back there. And seemingly much wine to taste. Before heading back up Rotary Road to admire the sunset. So hope that explains the slideshow somewhat.
It was a Sunday afternoon tempting me to curse my beloved “day job”. Only to remind me of that pulsating passion.
If I’d taken my camera on this morning’s jog, you’d have been even more blown. Ran along the pathway, Whale-walk or something, across to Grotto. Me and all the rich folk walking their holy pets, me and all the fitness fanatics seeking another fix, me and all the guilt conscious Christmas indulgers. I could have been a part of every grouping…
