Clear blue skies above the Deception Valley, at the start of a 31k run. Heard it was extreme, but no one could have prepared me enough. Beyond trail running. A lot un-runnable and scrambling across boulders, across streams, through and over roots and trees. Similar to Dusi in needing knowledge on where to go, which path to take, which not to.
Just far more so. Was bit overwhelmed. The most physical run I’ve done. Will had plenty hopscotch, precision far jump, and rock climbing in prep for next time. Shoes aren’t dry. Ever. Insane. In a good way. One of my luckiest moments yet: Bumped into three guys at the end of the run, asking if I were keen to paddle. Turned out to be the two Gordon’s, and Dwarne. 2nd, 3rd, and 6th at last years race. Allowed me to tag along. Twas a Coast school for four hours. Was humbled by their sharing, and liberal help.
