Fraser the Cartmell to defend 70.3 UK

Saturday, June 13th, 2009

My friend and Stellenbosch training partner (on rare occasions) over the summer has one of his big rendesvouz’ this weekend - his attempted third 70.3 UK title. I recall reading of his battle royal on the run leg last year - a tribute to hi fighting tenacity.
Follow his exploits on frasercartmell.com this weekend. Thoughts are [...]

I want

Monday, March 16th, 2009

To know how Fraser the Cartmell raced today.
To book my USA trip trip this week - Depart 20 Apr’ish and spend a week in New York(?) before returning 25 July.
To start running this week. It’s been a month before my first comfortable few minutes this evening.
To not be late (as usual) for my departure to [...]

Our Deepest Fear

A friend emailed the positively confrontational text below by Marianne Williamson earlier today. Somehow reminded me of Nelson Mandela and my own insecurities simultaneously?

New Years Time

Saturday, January 3rd, 2009

Some bits and pieces from the past few days. No significant reporting to be done. Getting through the work. Got to see my middle sister which was a treat on New Years Eve. Heard a class Oz athlete will be out next weekend (so went for a paddle…). And decided as a resolution, I need [...]

Fraser the Cartmell

Friday, August 15th, 2008

I’ve written plenty about my Scottish mate Fraser Cartmell who spent most the summer here training in The Bosch and will be back end November. Fraser’s had a great few months, including a successful defence of his UK 70.3 title. He’s currently back in California, and will be racing this weekend. He was pulled into [...]

Athletes I trained with this summer in Stellenbosch

Friday, April 4th, 2008

Thought it could be interesting to do a quick take on where everyone is at who I either trained with or just came in contact with here in The Bosch over the past few months. There was a great influx of foreign athletic ability this year, maybe more than ever, but as summer turns to autumn, [...]

Xterra Shongweni Video Clip

Wednesday, February 13th, 2008

A video clip showing some of the pre and post race laughs with Dylan and Fraser, which is the true chaos, as well as some race footage. Enjoy.

Xterra Shongweni - Race Report

Sunday, February 10th, 2008

I got race number 369 scribbled on my arm and leg at registration this morning, and seems that must be my lucky one. I had a cracker second outing at Shongweni, to win my third local DueSouth Xterra, with Kent Horner in second, and Fraser Cartmell rounding out the podium of a picture perfect venue capped by stunning weather.

(Running [...]

Xterra Shongweni - Battle Royal

Tuesday, February 5th, 2008

The third and final Duesouth Xterra before the South African Xterra finals at Grabouw, will be held at the Shongweni Reserve just outside of Durban on Sunday. Its the second Xterra at this venue that moulds nature and sport into one as none other. Fraser Cartmell, the Scotsman I’ve been training with, is my pick for [...]

Freezing a moment

Thursday, January 24th, 2008

Been a bit on the low side since the 6h30 effort at the Totalsports Challenge last weekend. Seems I went hard enough after all. Always incredible to me how we are made up of the physical, mental, emotional and spiritual. My emotions often tell a great deal about where the body is at. Been struggling [...]

Camp’s Bay Ride

Thursday, January 17th, 2008

Not often we get to play on the glamorous side with  rich and famous of Cape Town, but a few of us pulled in to Vida e Cafe for a pre-ride coffee in Camps Bay last Thursday. That with the excuse of ‘admin in CA’ and a swim in the sea… Neither of which happened. But before I write about the ride, [...]

Interpretation verification

Monday, January 7th, 2008

So two of my training partners over the past two weeks have put some photo’s up and written their view of some of the moments we’ve shared together. Always a laugh to see the same situation through different perspective. One of my favorite quotes was along those lines a few years back. I cant recall [...]

Long run in Jonkershoek

Friday, January 4th, 2008

My blogging coach came through for a run last weekend, and has some photo’s up on his flickr account. Its my favourite long run, as we start at a Trout Farm entering Jonkershoek, head up the mountain at gradual gradient for twenty min, before a breathtaking 5km contour to a stunning lookout point deep in the [...]

Ending the year in style - Wine tour ride

Wednesday, January 2nd, 2008

A few friends have yearly gathered for a wine tour on bikes (more wine than riding) in and around Stellenbosch to get the new years party started early. This year the lads were thinned, maybe their chains have been shortened over the past year, but myself and a few friends spent the afternoon in search of a fine wine [...]

Family Christmas at Langebaan

Tuesday, January 1st, 2008

Been meaning to share about the Christmas moments last week down on the West Coast at Langebaan with my family, my godfather and some good friends. We nipped down after Ruth’s work day for Christmas eve, leaving a bizarrely stormy Stellenbosch for the West Coast where the storm had passed already.

(Christmas eve sunset across Langebaan [...]

A ride for Dylan

Thursday, December 27th, 2007

I have this friend who over the past three years has done a lot my training with me, as well as being a partner in crime through much mucking about and procrastinating. We have a semi unwritten code, and understanding of sorts, most of which revolves around ‘looking the part’. Which in turn is probably [...]
