My TriathlonTeam.org team mate in Denmark, Aleksandar Sørensen-Markovic, combined a cancer campaign (video) with his Challenge Copenhagen race efforts. I am really moved by his drive to go beyond being an athlete. His initiative was well received, which included campaigning for the inaugural race number “1″ at the Challenge, especially online. Small web start-ups have exponential potential with viral media these days. As a local Aleks raced to his best and went 8:31 in 9th. But its the campaign that stands out to me and is in-line with the free soul I’ve gotten to know in Stellenbosch over the past two summers.
Lisa Norden was crowned the first female ITU Sprint World Champion in Lausanne earlier today. She’s been the superstar of the team, winning the WCS Hamburg event and holding 3rd on the rankings. Lisa is on the Specialized triathlon programme as well – and would be the first world champion on the new push there. Hope she is out and about tonight!
Fraser the Cartmell has continued his breakout 2010. Many back home have seen him race during his three summers out of Stellenbosch, which included the South Afrian 70.3 win in January. From there he got 4th at Abu Dhabi, reclaimed his UK 70.3 pride before winning his first Ironman two weekends ago. Fraser is one of the hardest working athletes I’ve met and I could not be happier for his success. I will be in Kona cheering on the Scott at his first outing there.
