Week’s Training

May 11th, 2008 by Dan Hugo

Been a good week to get into the bag. Feeling a bit knackered as I type this late Saturday night but its a positive fatigue, and already I’ve started cutting back on volume in preparation for next Sunday the 18th’s Xterra West Championships at Temecula near San Diego and Los Angeles.

Monday: 40min jog on the Legacy Trail from the house. 2h spin on the road bike up along the Truckee River to Lake Tahoe and back. 1h10 swim with 3×10x100 on descending send-off as main set.

Tuesday: Swim with Tahoe Donner Masters Squad - main set 1000 straight, then 10×100. Quality 55min run with 3×2km as quality with 2min recovery. Air Centre Criterium in Reno on road bike. 1h30 total time, with 45min at full tilt - 4th place.

Wednesday: 3h mountain bike with quality - 4×3min and 3×3min hills with the 3×3 slightly harder. Rode great trails before and after on the 06 and Saw Tooth Trail. 1h midweek semi long run on the treadmill watching Bond. James Bond. Casino Royal.

Thursday: Semi quality run - 50min steady as, well more than steady. Hurt a great deal. Ran it at Martis Valley. Swim with Tahoe Donner Masters Squad - main set 8×75, 8×100, 8×125.

Friday: Rest day. Shopping with the misses in Reno…

Saturday: Swim with Tahoe Donner Masters Squad - IM main setĀ of 7×50 sprints. 2h30 long ride on mtb with 25min run off the bike, of which 10min was quality.

Sunday: Hoping to tick off a good long run. Maybe even tempt the molten snow in Donner Lake…

In all feeling great and looking forward to sitting a week from now, with all prepared, ready to race in the morning. Equally excited to see Brian, my homestay from last year who I’ve stayed in touch with, and spending some time away. Hoping the form comes good. So far so good and feel like I’m responding well to the altitude stimulus.
