Wrist in detail

Feeling plenty more positive after the weekend. Admittedly was a little disappointed on Friday. Really wanted to let rip from here. But seems another month of caution it will be. But got to swim yesterday, without anything, and rode out on the road for the first time this morning.

I have to wear a brace, for a month, and can take it off to swim and twice a day to stretch the ligaments and start strengthening the weakened bones and muscles.

Being able to take off a cast, at least feels more freedom, and feels like progression. Am also able to ride on the road with it, and can run with my wrist in a ‘normal’ position as opposed to some gay soft hand.

It allows far more freedom, and much less stench.

Here the mixed report, of healing but not healed.

(X-ray report)

Seems the right side of the screw has done well, and not much sign of the break remains there, but on the left is still a slight visible colour difference. The small displacement seems to worry those in the know, less than me, and seems it wont have any longer term implications.

From here on, dont take another x-ray, and the orthopaedic surgeon goes on symptoms hereafter.

The small swim I did yesterday, and the ride out today, felt good, and I feel more hurt in the stiff joints, than in the region of the break. In particular my thumb jont is all too tight. Nine weeks of no movement at all.

Further was of interest to me comparing the x-rays of 4weeks ago, and seeing all the bones becoming lighter in colour, as the body starts withdrawing minerals and nutrients from the bones not being used. Apparently an issue among the old. So starting bits of movement will hopefully aid the broken scaphoid, as well as the entire weakened wrist.

The biggest blow is not being allowed to paddle for another month, as my coming racing is back to some multisport. But much else is positive. And time is still on my side.

It is scary to see what a difference there is in your injured wrist by not using it for so long. You have been so incredible in staying positive through all the rehab. Which confirms why it was so nice to have you here in California to compete. You have so much talent to reach the top.
Sorry, but it makes me anxious to see your healing process and the discipline it takes right now to go slow till your wrist is ready. Thank you for sharing the status as you heal.

Even more alarming is the nappy scalp hiding behind the wrist injury. This looks like the same stranger standing next to your girlfriend in the skiff photo. I think this guy may be stalking you, or cutting in and taking over your life.

I really liked all the geewiz GPS stuff in that last post. It almost makes all that suffering seem kinda fun.
