Xterra Buffelspoort 2010 – Photo tales

Got beaten to this line last year. Stillwater Sports do an excellent setup. The kind that makes you want to get to the post-race hospitality area first; while all the cookies are still neatly stacked.
Funny, the small differences: My hair must have been too clean (or not?) so my Puma swim cap kept slipping off. Had to stop and empty my goggles once, and my backstroke kick is a slow sink. I figured this week the cap has a small whole in it, wondering if it had during this swim, judging by all the water in it.
On the positive, the new suit was a sensation. A medium this time. Was in a medium-tall. 2XU are leading the buoyancy game – I’ll bet on it. Due to poor admin – Louis had to overnight from PE to Joburg. The kind of service and support that stands out. Thanks mate.
Prob the worst section of an altitude triathlon: the swim exit to transition! Hated as much as the bear thats been swimming on your back since the first buoy. Water looks choppy, but think thats more the amount of swimmers out turning it up. Conditions were brilliant.
This was in the first few kilometers – White kit settles that… Think Kent had gone down just 30m before this. It was beyond slick through here. Thankfully knew the line on the right was less deep than the left, from pre-ride the day before. Even at this point, the Specialized sunnies were baggage. Fine mist, mud, steaming head, not good.
Dont think my front and rear are heading in the same general direction here!?
Pity I was missed going through the river and up the dam wall on the run. Really sensational backdrop to a trail run.
From the splits I received, seems I took another 30sec on the run, which means a lot to me.
It was the first time Xterra South Africa included the new presenting sponsor in Rehidrat. For those who took the runs too seriously.
Brown as the new black.
Max Cluer and myself – Max has been one of the most influential individuals to professional career. Catching up post race. Really cool feel, having to get up and over this stage when finishing. Really saluting and celebrating all who survived water, mud, hills, and plenty sound reason to have stayed in bed.
In all, fun day. Hope you were there. And will see you next weekend at Grabouw. Road trip from Joburg?…
