Stretching my flight airconned stratchy dry eyes to marvel at the airport impressive expanse at Cape Town International, I turned North East towards the Stellenbosch mountains – prestine in clear winter air. Home. Home is where the heart is. Much biltong and dinner before a crushing sleep.
Had watched Juno, Duplicity, He’s Just Not That Into You, Man on Fire, Echelon Conspiracy… As alternative to shallow sleep on the plane. Morning rub with Franc the magician before crazed unpacking and repacking. I forgot all my stash was in Worcester. So just ended refolding most the dirty gear for the next ten days away. Alas. Piss poor planning leads to piss poor performace, as Fraser the Cartmell would say.
4hours of flight delay.
Raced the first Jeep Apparel Multisport Series at Albert Falls on Sunday morn. Tried not to wobble the New York fatigued legs too much on the 5k run. But was pushed along by Martin Dreyer’s Change a Life accademy lads.
I love life. I love my life. Staring at Manhatten sky line one day, and chasing off herds of buck the next. Racing in a reserve is something I wish my American mates could experience. Did not see the rhino this time. Which is the preferred option…
Missed arrows early on the bike, got lost and finished 100th. My bad. So frustrating. Enjoyed paddling again though.

Yesterday we drove 7hours, past 91st obirthday Mandela’s Transkei houses and where he spent his youth. Through some of the most Africa Africa parts of RSA. All to make it to the start if the 10th running of the first ever mtb stage race – The Imana Wild Ride. 4 days of riding along remote coastline. I’ve partnered with Bobby Behan. And hoping the Irishman will love the experience as much as I did last year.
Day1 was unbelievable. We had a school of dolphins swimming alongside us for 80% of the way. Seen some wales. And left tire imprints on perfect beaches. The racing was a bit aggressive, and before beach one we’d lost touch. But Bobby paced himself well, and soon we pegged the gap, and then brought them back. But Nic and Pete were a level above and set off. With 10min remaining we closed to 2nd, but Mike and Criag out sprinted us. Plenty fun. I love to race.
Excuse the typo’s – this done on the Wordpess iPhone application. Off to lunch…
